The taxi driver

Sunday, 20/7/08

I awoke latter than usual due to a somewhat called irregular bedtime of mine. My mind went wondering last night thinking about the things that have happened to me days before, which I won’t probably share here because of certain circumstances..and yes, of course wouldn't I know that there was even much more awaiting for me today..So I did the usual, woke up, went to the loo and stuff. Studied contract some more, printed out past year’s questions and....

-canceled due to irrelevantly-

It was now 6.00pm... I was ready and headed to Kak Farah's room. We were to set of together to a Kuliah which avenue I did not know off. So at last we got on a bus, and set off. The situation in the bus was peaceful compared to weekdays (you wouldn't like it..the smell..the heat..the whatever..its like being in a sardine can. But the worse part of all is actually getting on the bus-tough guys/gals are better at this mind you!-budak2 merebut gula pon tak seteruk ni) . Kak Farah then, started doing her thing..she transformed (ni saja nak hiperbola sikit) beside me, I just stared at her, because she really does look different wearing her purdah (now whats the word for it in english..owh,never mind). We arrived at a destination and met with two other girls, both unknown to me, they were Kak Izzati and Kak Ain. To shorten the story, we waited until finally our 'petunjuk arah' came by motorcycle..(really I thought one of the girls knew where we were heading to but alas no, they didn't).We were lucky to get a taxi, as there weren't many left. Kak Ain got in beside the driver, while the two other kakaks (hehe..cam pelik lak bunyinya) started to get into the back. Which was fortunate for today as something happened just as a the two purdah sisters climbed on board..

"the taxi driver"

So everyone was in, (although I didn't quite manage to close the door on time before the car started moving),we were then greeted with a sentence, a very weird one mind you:

"adik-adik jangan jadi local, jadi original!"

........

Kami semua saling berpandangan..terkebil-kebil kekeliruan, what is this old man trying to say? So we said nothing and kept our mouths shut as we didn’t understand what he was trying to convey to us. He repeated his statement, not once but more then that. So one of us finally said Insayallah.

Throughout the journey he said many other things to us. Some where right and worthy to be taken, but others where not.

.....the pros,

he said "pakcik suka cara kamu tapi jangan sesat macam ayah pin"

and

"malulah kamu kepada pakaian/penampilan kamu sekiranya kamu melakukan maksiat"

....the uncatogarizeable,

"daun-daun akan gugur jatuh ke paha adik-adik sebelum sempat jatuh ke bumi"=????wonder what it means

....the cons,

he talked and talked mostly of which we did not understand until finally we understood one or two of his sentences...

"pernah dengar cerita adam makan iblis?"-we all went like"huh?!-nope,never have!"

he also stated that we were supposed to give salam not just after but also before the prayer. He said it was to 'respect' Allah, the kiblat??, and whatsoever. We all said that we never have heard of such a thing. Kak Izzati started to protest, but she calmed down shortly after as she had probably thought about the consequences if we did rebel,(he is a man, an elder citizen who we should respect, plus he is probably more stronger that 4 of us together despite the fact that he might also take us elsewhere if we do)

the worse part of all which made us all furious and dumbstruck was when the pakcik mempertikaikan kalimah syahadah..

"Sesungguhnya tiada tuhan, melainkan Allah"

dia menggantungkan ayat itu pada tuhan.(this part is actually a little tricky to explain) so he says that there is no god/tuhan. He also told us never to say the word 'tuhan' again. His evidence as he claims is that in the 99 names of Allah there is no single word that means god/tuhan.But the real point here is that 'Illah' doesn’t really mean god right? it means 'sembahan'..

I was emotional at that moment, with a mixture of feelings...I felt scared to what this old man was telling us (I knew that most of it were wrong, but imagine if he also did this to others..no matter young or old, newcomers and so on), I was angry towards myself for not being able to straighten this man back, and at the same time also felt sad for this taxi driver, which mixes true and false things together, that can tore up one's faith and believes. p/s: he says that he once had schooled at a 'sekolah pondok' (he even said the name of the place, which kak izzati has never heard of- so we concluded that this man may have understood his teacher's teaching differently or in other words is that he misunderstood).
We arrived at the destination and got off, the taxi driver offered us a trip home if we wanted to because public transportation was limited at this area. little did he know that we never..and I do mean NEVER with a capital N want to aboard his car again .
So the Kuliah started after Magrib, the topic was on fitnah (wow..really does hit a light ball doesn’t it after all the things we have been through right now)..

-forwarded-

The Kuliah ended, now we faced a serious problem...how are we to get back?..we thought and thought of alternatives besides the taxi and to shorten things up, at last we were offered a trip home by one of kak izzati friend friends(really..my sentences are getting jumbled up..). Unfortunately, it was now 10.30pm and we were very late, so kak farah told me to tell the driver to put a step on it, so I did (really why do I always have to be the communicator)..all well ends well..I got pass the gates just in time...with a pre-worried kak farah..
